GOALS
Complex development of the city of Mariupol, where two large metallurgical plants of Metinvest Group are located (Ilyich Steel and Azovstal, which combined employ more than 25,000 Mariupol residents). The project aims to improve the quality of life for residents in strategic partnership with the local government and NGOs.
SOLUTION
• Facilitating the establishment of the Mariupol Development Fund in 2016 and using the Group's international expertise and best business practices to help the city's development;

• Signing a social partnership agreement, as well as participating in the development and implementation of a long-term development strategy for Mariupol;

• Consulting and sharing Metinvest's many years of experience in carrying out social projects with the participation of residents to implement their own initiatives;

• Systematic investment in joint programmes with the Mariupol Development Fund aimed at developing infrastructure, medicine, education, culture, sport and tourism.

Ensure the development and implementation of local development strategies aimed at economic growth, job creation, tourism, recreation and development of the local culture, and production of local products.

The Mariupol Development Fund is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation that unites representatives of business, NGOs and public figures to implement promising ideas and projects aimed at improving the quality of life and wellbeing of residents.
International donors have also become partners of the Mariupol Development Fund to implement the sustainable development strategy for Mariupol, including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and European Investment Bank (EIB).
RESULTS
In 2017, a development strategy for Mariupol through 2021 was approved that contains target programmes to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of the local community.

Metinvest helped to launch the Mariupol Development Fund and is its largest private donor. In 2016-19, the Group invested UAH405 million in joint projects with the Mariupol Development Fund and local government to develop and improve the quality of administrative and medical services; support innovation, entrepreneurship and IT; sponsor sport and cultural events; develop green areas and tourism; and implement infrastructural and educational projects.
